Skin Prep:
Exfoliating with a salt scrub or other appopriate product is recommended the day before you sunless tan. Removing loose, dead, dry skin cells that prevent even application of sunspray solution will improve and extend you tanning results. Your skin should be clean, dry, and free of perfumes, lotions or deodorant. Always make sure your skin is cool before spraying!
Where to Spray:
Always spray in a well-ventilated area. If spraying in the shower, stand on a towel. Spraying outside is ideal because none of the mist lands on the feet.
How to Spray:
Use an even sweeping motion to spray. When spraying the face, keep eyes and mouth closed. Slightly bend elbows and knees and use product sparingly in these areas. Getting the hands and feet perfect may require a little practice. Some people spray them directly (but lightly!); I prefer to just let them absorb the mist that is in the air anyway. Note: If you are spraying in a small shower, excess mist may fall on your feet causing them to be too dark. I would recommend spraying in the shower only if you have a large shower.
After Spraying:
If you want to dry quickly, use the cool or low setting on your blow dryer and you'll be dry in about a minute. Or you can air dry, which only takes a few minutes. Wear loose fitting clothing and do not get skin wet for 6-8 hours. For this reason, I have found that spraying right before bedtime works best for me.
How to Fix Mistakes:
While spraying, if you notice any mistakes, you can very gently dab them with a moist sponge and then reapply.
As with any sunless tanner, while you are getting the hang of it, you may make a couple mistakes. No problem!! Here are a few products that will erase your boo-boo's in a jiffy:
- lemon juice
- whitening toothpaste-let it dry and rub it with a wet cloth
- nail polish remover
How to Keep your Tan:
Avoid long showers or baths, and avoid soap products. Soap encourages the skin to exfoliate, so use a gentle soap-free cleanser instead. Moisturize regularly. Also, there are moisturizers that are available with a light DHA bronzer in them that will help to extend the tan and reduce uneven wear and patchiness.Have you used a product with AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) in it ? It is a spray tan killer. You find it in Nivea creams, for example. It is an anti- aging chemical that may or may not work but we do know it can ruin your tan.
